Experience pistol shooting

Try shooting with us.

City Pistol Club isn't currently accepting new members — membership is by referral from an existing member only. But if you've always been curious about pistol shooting, we offer guided try-shooting sessions at Auburn SSAA Indoor Range. A trainer will be with you every step of the way.

What to expect

Your session, step by step

  1. Step 1

    Get in touch

Contact us via email to arrange a date. Sessions run on the third Sunday of each month alongside our regular club matches.

  2. Step 2

    Safety induction

On arrival your trainer will walk you through the four firearm safety rules and the range standing orders before you handle anything.

  3. Step 3

    Shoot

50 rounds of .22 LR on a 25-metre indoor range, coached the whole time. Your trainer will help with stance, grip, sight picture and trigger control.

What's provided

  • 50 rounds of .22 LR ammunition
  • Firearm (club-supplied .22 LR pistol)
  • Hearing protection (Class 5 ear muffs)
  • Impact-rated shooting glasses
  • Range induction and safety briefing
  • Dedicated trainer for the full session

What to wear

  • Closed-toe shoes — mandatory inside the range
  • Comfortable, well-fitted clothing
  • No loose scarves, open collars or dangling jewellery — spent casings eject hot and can land on exposed skin
  • A collar or crew-neck top is ideal

No thongs, sandals or open footwear permitted. No exceptions.

Common questions

Good to know

Do I need any experience?

None at all. Sessions are designed for complete beginners. Your trainer will cover everything from scratch.

Can I become a member afterwards?

Membership is currently by referral from an existing member only. If you impress us, who knows — but the try-shooting session is a standalone experience with no commitment.

Can I bring someone to watch?

Yes — spectators are welcome in the observation area. They must comply with all range safety rules and wear hearing and eye protection while inside the range.

What if I need to cancel?

Please let us know as early as possible so we can offer the slot to someone else. Contact us at info@citypistolclub.org.

Ready to give it a go?

Get in touch and we'll arrange a session on our next match day — the third Sunday of the month.
